The website of the International Conference Series on the Foundations and Future of Democracy and its culminating event, the World Forum on the Future of Democracy is now on-line.
Led by the President of the United States and Her Majesty The Queen, Americans and Britons have had occasion during 2007 to recall the shared ideals and democratic institutions that trace their roots to the founding of Jamestown in Virginia. Representative government, the rule of law, civil liberties, economic freedoms, and cultural diversity are among the enduring and evolving legacies of that vital planting four centuries ago.
The journey begun at Jamestown not only has shaped our two countries; it also has helped to transform the modern world. In our time, democratic ideals have experienced their most dramatic global gains - a story of progress and promise often intermingled with sacrifice and setbacks. The year-long Democracy Conference Series provides a timely opportunity for people of all nations to reflect on this journey and explore how best to advance our shared values and aspirations in the years ahead.
